Convergence is our holy grail – meaning we believe development happens when various disciplines, industries and people get together. For fifteen years, we’ve engaged the public sector, academic institutions and more than 150 companies in cross-disciplinary collaborations and knowledge-sharing. In our second decade exploring and creating together, our goal is to equip humans and organisations with tools and inspiration to thrive in uncertainty. We aim to help closing intent-to-action gaps in transitions to stay sustainable and resilient and for fostering completely new beginnings.

The future is complex. We strive to give people better tools to make sense of and shape what’s ahead.

Collaborative Foresight

Together with our community, we lift our gazes to scan the horizon for signals and trends to imagine, prepare for and shape multiple futures of topics of interest. We dig deep into the changes in human behaviours, technologies, tools, and the systems we inhabit shape our futures. We imagine a plethora of possible, desirable and alternative futures and translate insights into actions in the present.

In our work on Collaborative Foresight, we invite people and organisations to explore the futures of impactful topics, including creative expression, work, sustainability, urban environments and wellbeing. Together, we identify ways to prepare for the unknown and uncover ways to bring about desirable futures.

What happens when artificial intelligence becomes a natural part of creative processes? What can nature teach us about the technological systems we develop and govern? How can we reflect on the value of work in futures affected by climate disruption? Who decides how to define and design a healthy, sustainable and mobile life experience?

Ultimately we seek to foster hope in a plurality of futures, responsibility to act and agency for all to do so.

Spaces for knowledge sharing

Our public program creates opportunities for collective meaning-making and creative capacity-building. We host local and global academics, creatives, business and scientific experts to engage with our community through seminars, workshops, courses, suppers, installations, exhibitions and social gatherings.

We hold space for both challenging and hopeful perspectives, and amplify new voices who help us look bravely at our complex present to find inspiration for creating better futures.

The Conference is our shining example of our mixed-methods approach to inspirational learning. Since 2011, we’ve hosted an annual two-day gathering that delves into the promises and pitfalls of our evolving relationships with our technologies, with each other and with our planet. A thousand curious minds come to listen to more than 30 speakers from all over the world, and leave with hearts full, minds bent, and connections made.

A place to connect

For the last ten years, we have run and cared for a place to connect over work at Stora Varvsgatan 6 in Malmö. It’s a place for meetings, food and work. Over the years we have continuously explored the ways we interact, commune and work together (we gathered our thoughts and experiences in the book Work is a Four-Letter Word. Many have been here for the recurring festivities, and many more join us on a daily basis be it for lunch, a chat over coffee or meeting on the next step. The physical incarnation of Media Evolution is an open space for radical ideas, emerging shifts and unexpected intersections. To many, it’s a place for work, meetings and food – a literal “co-working” space. For us and for those who dig deeper, our place is a place willing to ask questions about what work is – why we work, how we work, when we work and what the meaning of our focus on productivity is. We are also certified by Green Key.

The Futures Library by the entrance of our place is a physical incarnation of our foresight work and as such a community resource to help figure out how humans and businesses can co-exist sustainably in the long term and inspire ways of making futures.

The circle and the square

A group of people gathering will instinctively organise in a circle. Rather than taking centre stage, Media Evolution ties the circle — our community — together. The circle is a symbol of continuum and change. Our presence is continuous, one to rely on, yet our structure is simple and fluid so that we can stay in constant transformation. For such is the nature of the future we are part of shaping.

A rectangle symbolises the room, the house, the shelter. Media Evolution is a public place that seeks to create a physical framework for convening and immersement. A sort of square, indoors. We are the caretakers of a safe space for collaboration, exploration and widening the gaze.
