Foresight

Digital Urban Layers for Participation

April 23, 2025

9 am — 11 am

Join us for two hours on how digital systems can support participation and transparency in future urban contexts.

At The Conference 2016 Indy Johar gave a cherries presentation on Democratizing Cities – methods, materials and language for democracy beyond the vote. Looking back it is more relevant than ever. In the spring 2025 we are conducting a Collaborative Foresight cycle on Futures of Digital Urban Layers in which this seminar is a part.

Speakers

Clara McNair (Creative Technologist at Gehl) will talk about how digital platforms can be used to engage citizens in the design of urban futures.

Navid Christensen (Architect and Methodology Lead at White Arkitekter) will present how human behaviour can be linked with digital tools like VR, AI, and data interfaces to make invisible patterns in cities visible and usable, with the Malmö Generate District as future case.

Reeta Hafner (Foresight Lead at Media Evolution) will share insights from the Signal Scanning Workshop (April 15) on the same topic.

Moderator: Annita Douka (Engagement Coordinator & Concept Developer at Media Evolution)

Context

The seminar builds on collaborative work Media Evolution has conducted in the past years including The Futures we Build, Futures of Wise Cities and lectures by Nick Dunn (Envisioning Futures of the Built Environment), Deb Chachra (Transforming our Built Environment) and plenty of The Conference talks.

This Collaborative Foresight Cycle is made possible by DigIT Hub Sweden. DigIT Hub Sweden helps companies and the public sector in Southern Sweden to digitalise. The initiative is co-funded by the European Union, Region Blekinge, Region Kronoberg, Region Skåne, and Vinnova.
