Signal Scanning: Futures of Digital Urban Layers

April 15, 2025

9 am — 12 pm

In recent years, we’ve seen development in digital systems and data sources, including platforms for public participation and decision-making. This has opened up for new opportunities in how we design, plan and operate our urban spaces, and respond to the challenges that cities and urban communities face today and in the future.

During this three-hour open community workshop, we'll identify and discuss signals, trends and drivers related to the way we design, plan and operate our urban spaces using digital technologies, including developments related to transparency, citizen participation, developments in AI technologies, the connection between analogue and digital ways of participation, resilience and sustainability.

In this workshop, you’ll practice working some of the core tenets of Collaborative Foresight: collectively identifying, sharing and making sense of signals, trends and drivers that can open up for multiple possible futures and guide us in preparing for and shaping change.

This is an open workshop for anyone who is interested and invested in the topic and its futures. We seek to bring together folks with a wide range of professional, educational and lived-experiences – from digital developers and strategists to designers, city officials, architects, facilitators, researchers, students and others.

Time

Coffee and tea will be served at 8:30. We’ll start promptly at 9:00 and end at 12:00.

Facilitator: Reeta Hafner, Foresight Lead at Media Evolution.

Participation is free of charge but seats are limited, so sign up in advance! The workshop will be held in English.
